Roland Garros champion Svetlana Kuznetsova progresses to the third round at Wimbledon after beating Pauline Parmentier of France.
Kuznetsova said that playing at Wimbledon after the French Open is like jumping into a water-polo pool after a handball game. However, it seems the athlete, who turns 24 on Saturday, has already adjusted from clay to grass as she needed just 59 minutes to deal with her opponent.
Two breaks allowed Svetlana to take the first set 6-1. The fifth seed sealed the deal in the second, winning 6-3.
Kuznetsova is well on her way to becoming the first woman since Serena Williams in 2002 to win two consecutive Grand Slam tournaments in the same year.
Defending champion Venus Williams also went through to the third round, experiencing few problems in a game against Katerina Bondarenko of Ukraine, 6-3 6-2.
Dinara Safina, who has yet to grab her first career Grand Slam title, was the predictable winner in the match against Rossana De Los Rios.
The World No. 1 needed just two breaks – one in each set – to outplay the Paraguayan 6-3 7-5.
