Following the initiative of world N. 1 Rodger Federer, tennis stars including Federer, reigning Australian Open champions Rafael Nadal and Serena Williams, 2008 winner Novak Djokovic, Andy Roddick, US Open women's champion Kim Clijsters and Australia's Lleyton Hewitt and Samantha Stosur took over Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena to play a series of exhibition games.
The public was charged a minimum donation of ten dollars to watch.
Around 17,000 fans snapped up tickets for the ninety-minute event that raised $461 thousand.
Federer said afterwards: "I thought we should do something and within twenty four hours we were able to pull this off."
