Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt and American tennis player Serena Williams have won the Laureus Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year awards respectively - the prize often referred to as the sports “Oscar”.
Bolt won three gold medals at last year's athletics World Championships and refreshed his own world records in the 100 and 200-meter races.
While Williams, who regained the No. 1 ranking in 2009, won the Australian Open and Wimbledon.
For both athletes the Laureus Sports Award was the second of its kind.
Elsewhere, Belgian tennis player Kim Clijsters earned the Comeback of the Year award. Clijsters won the US Open in 2009 after being out of tennis for almost two years, getting married and giving birth to a child.
