Mercedes-Benz have announced that they are to take over the Brawn GP Formula One team.

The new team will be known as “Mercedes Grand Prix” with Ross Brawn remaining team principal.

As part of the deal, Mercedes' parent company Daimler AG relinquished their 40% stake in McLaren, but will remain their engine suppliers for the next six seasons.

Mercedes would not comment on who would be driving for Brawn, although German Nico Rosberg looks likely to be in the line-up.

Meanwhile, this year’s champ Jansen Button continues to be strongly linked with an imminent move to McLaren to team up with fellow British F1 world champion Lewis Hamilton.
