2007 Formula One champ Kimi Raikkonen has signed with the Citroen rally team for 2010.

Raikkonen will compete for Citroen in the World Rally Championship next season, the team announced late on Friday.

Raikkonen left Ferrari at the end of the 2009 F1 season after finishing just 6th in the overall standings.

Citroen said the Finnish driver would be part of its Red Bull-backed junior team in 12 of the 13 events in 2010, missing only an event in New Zealand.

“This is a new but very exciting challenge,” Raikkonen said in a statement.

”For the moment we have a one-year contract and we will see how it goes for the future.”

Thus, the Finn’s chances of returning to F1 in 2011 are still alive.
