Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso has won the first ever Korean Grand Prix and replaced Mark Webber of Red Bull on top of the drivers’ standings.
The rain made the race in Yeongam one of the most spectacular of the 2010 Formula 1 season.
The start took place under safety car with a ten-minute delay, but the race was than stopped after just a few laps due to wet circuit.
The drivers returned to their vehicles after only an hour and that was when the drama unfolded.
Pole holder Sebastian Vettel managed to maintain the lead, while his Red Bull teammate and championship leader Mark Webber collided with a safety fence and left the race, taking Williams man Nico Rosberg with him.
Rain specialist Vitaly Petrov of Russia, who was 20th on the starting grid, managed to reach for 7th place, but a driving mistake prevented him from reaching the finish.
Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso passed Vettel for the lead in the final stage of the race, which was when the Gernam’s engine blew up, concluding Red Bull’s unlucky weekend.
Alonso was the first of 16 cars to see the checkered flag in Korea, with Lewis Hamilton behind him and another Ferrari driver Felipe Massa in third.
It was the Spaniard’s fifth win of the season, which allowed him to grab 231 points and replace Webber, who remains on 220 points, on top of the drivers’ standings.
