Is there one martial art that can top all the others? One of the world's best Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fighters, Aleksandr Emelianenko, says that it is the Russian combat discipline of sambo.
Sambo is not superior to all martial arts. Except for Fedor (a special man by himself) sambo fighters did never dominated the world of MMA. The Brazilian Jiu Jitsu dominated it all the time, since the Gracies to nowadays MMA champions most top level guys in MMA have BJJ background (Georges St. Pierre, B.J.Penn, Mauricio "Shogun" Rua, Lyoto Machida, Alistair Overeem, Wanderlei Silva, Anderson Silva, Nogueira Brothers, Fabricio Werdum and many other). Fedor's success has also something to do with the preparation level of the MMA heavyweights which is low compared to other weight classes. Except Fedor and Overeem there is no heavyweight in MMA to be a complete fighter. All Fedor's opponents have had major lacks in some area (they had a poor striking or a poor grappling or a low level of fitness and speed). Sambo is nothing more than a mixture of moves copied from other martial arts.
BJJ seems to be superior to Samba, since Fabricio Werdum easily defeated both Emelianenko brothers.

Actually, I am aware of Samba wrestling. Soviet special forces were trained in this martial art. However you are mistaken if you think Samba is superior among all martial arts. In my home state there is a martial state called Kalaripayattu. Don't think I'm condescending. Kalaripayattu is the guru of all martial arts. Origins unknown. Legends say its steps evolved from Tandava dance of Hindu god Lord Shiva. Shiva is the first manifestation of divinity in this world. My Russian friend Emelianenko may not know this. Let him come to the state of Kerala and try this out.
