For many Russian hockey players the road to success goes through Yaroslavl and one of the country’s best hockey schools. That’s where superstar Simeon Varlamov trained, the Washington Capitals’ 21-year-old goalie.

They come form themselves and their families, and they represent all that is good. It is great to see young people devote themselves to sport, to devote themselves to great achievement All the fame, the riches, that come to them is well deserved. Hockey is a game we take great pride in, it lifts our nations hearts when we win at anything, but to win at Hockey is always special. These young people are the ambassadors of Russia and of sport. They chose to push themselves, to stagger and come through. They chose sport, and they chose to be sportsman, they travelled to play with the best in the NHL to further their dreams. They show the value of sportsmanship, they show what relationships should exist in this world, between players and between countries. They came from their backgrounds to lead, and show everyone of us how to behave, truly great teachers, and so young. In every country, there are these players, and let them all shine through.
