A last-seconds dig by Petri Kontiola earned team Finland a 3-2 win against Russia at Moscow’s stage of the Euro Hockey Tour.
The game was tied up at one apiece after the two periods of cautious hockey.
In the third period, team Russia gathered pace and Maxim Sushinsky’s goal came as no surprise nine minutes before the end.
But just a few moments later Finland’s veteran Ville Peltonen leveled things again, which seriously dented the Russians’ enthusiasm.
The game was edging towards overtime, but a defensive blunder cost Russia even a draw. KHL star Petri Kontiola found himself unmarked near the Russian net with just seven seconds to go and dug the puck home.
Finland now take the lead in the tournament, while Russia are still on top of the overall Euro Hockey Tour standings.
