Russia's national ice hockey team can breathe a sigh of relief as their star forward Aleksandr Ovechkin's knee injury after a horror tackle on Monday appears not to be serious.
The Washington Capitals player collided with Carolina’s Tim Gleason in the NHL, and lay flat-out on the ice for several minutes before being helped off.
But he was able to make a short appearance at the Capitals' morning practice on Tuesday.
"It's not a bad injury. I thought it was going to be worse, but thank God I can walk, I can skate. Of course, it's a little bit sore, but it's not that serious," Aleksandr Ovechkin told the Denver Post.
However, the 24-year-old has been given a two-game ban for fouling on Gleason.
Ovechkin is considered a key man for Russia at next year's winter Olympics in Vancouver.
