Metallurg Magnitogorsk leveled their KHL play-off quarter-final with Atlant, winning game two of the series on away ice.

Atlant Moscow Region 3-4 Metallurg Magnitogorsk

Atlant Moscow region went ahead after just two minutes of play thanks to a goal by Nikolay Pronin and kept the score 1-0 till the end of the first period.

In the opening minutes of the second period, Metallurg got a great opportunity and took full advantage out of a five-on-three situation.

First, it was an effort by Vitaly Atiushov finished off by Tomash Rolinek. By 1-1 Atlant got one man out of the sin bin, but only 30 seconds later, game MVP Aleksey Kaigorodov set up teammate Vladimir Malenkih to take the lead.

After scoring the second goal, Metallurg's play became somewhat careless and aggressive, which resulted in multiple fouls.

The equalizer came in the 11th minute of the second period through Dmitry Bykov, assisted by Aleksander Korolyuk, but it was Metallurg, who went to the last period a goal ahead.

With less than half a minute remaining in the period, while the guests were a man down themselves, Aleksey Kaigorodov brought joy to the visiting fans.

The third period became a moment of deja vu when the score changed in the opening minutes of play.

Atlant, with a two-man advantage on unmarked Mikhail Balandin made no mistake, leveling the score 3-3

As the clock approached overtime, Metallurg sealed victory with just a minute to play with Vladislav Bulyin’s help, assisted by Denis Khlistov.

Lokomotiv Yaroslavl 5-3 Spartak Moscow

Lokomotiv were firmly in the driving seat against Spartak Moscow thanks to an excellent display from Aleksey Yashin in game two as he netted a hat-trick and an assist in a 5-3 victory.

Yashin struck twice early on to give the home side the lead, before Spartak closed the gap late in the opening period as Aleksander Drozdetsky scored to make it 2-1.

The Muscovites equalized in the third period after Dmitry Tarasov converted a power play to make it 2-2.

Aleksey Mikhnov put Lokomotiv back in front. The lead lasted only one minute before Aleksey Akifyev pounced to make it three-all.

Once again Lokomotiv pushed forward – with Aleksandr Galimov putting the hosts ahead 4-3.

When the Muscovites sacrificed their goalie, the home side was finally able to put the game to bed as Yashin intercepted the puck to score his easiest goal of the night.

At 5-3, the final score puts the Yaroslavl side two-up in the series. They now need just one more win to book their place in the semi-finals of the Gagarin Cup, which is named after the first man in space – Yury Gagarin.
