The coach of Belarusian hockey club Metallurg was dismissed without explanation a day after an amateur team, which he also headed, defeated the team of country’s president Aleksandr Lukashenko, Charter97.org reports.

The Belarusian president is known for promoting healthy living by his own example, with hockey being one of his favorite sports.

Lukashenko’s hockey team was undefeated before last weekend when Evgeny Lebedev’s men took the better of them.

Commenting on his dismissal from Metallurg Zhlobin, Lebedev said the club’s bosses didn’t inform him of the reasons behind the cancellation of his contract.

Metallurg’s director-in-chief, Oleg Bogorad, refused to comment on the issue, saying that the new coach for the team will be named around the end of April.

The dismissal came despite the fact that Metallurg reached its biggest success – claiming bronze medals in the Belarusian championship – under Lebedev this season.
