Russian hockey fans rejoice as the country's national team continues their unbeaten run at the World Championships in Switzerland with a win over Latvia.
Oleg Tverdovsky and Anton Kuryanov scored two goals each in a game that eventually finished 6-1.
Russia has now won all qualification round ties and top the group standings. They also beat Sweden, Switzerland, France and the USA.
Also in Group E, Switzerland went down to the Swedes 4-1. In order to qualify to the last eight, the hosts need to beat the Americans in the relegation.
In qualification Group F, Canada destroyed Norway 5-1 to strengthen their lead in their sextet. Elsewhere, the Czechs posted a win over Belarus 3-0. The result means that the Russian neighbors will oppose Vyacheslav Bykov’s charges in quarterfinals.
The other three pairs of quarterfinalists will be decided on Monday as Switzerland face team USA, France challenge Sweden, Canada meet Finland, while the Slovaks take on Norway in a consolation match.
