Ukraine left without Premier League

Kiev’s district administrative court has ruled to liquidate Ukraine’s football Premier League because it doesn’t meet the country’s laws in its present form.

The story began on June 20 when FC Dnepr management made a claim to the court calling for the league’s liquidation. The club’s owner Igor Kolomoisky, who is also the Ukrainian football federation vice-president, suggested that the court should deprive the Premier League of the rights to organize the domestic championship as it is illegal, and pass these rights to another body, established in accordance with the country’s laws.

Late on Monday, Kiev’s district administrative court sustained Kolomoisky’s claims and decreed that there was no legal body called “Ukraine’s Premier League” anymore. Curiously enough, it was exactly that very court that had given the Premier League a license few years ago.

Now the league has 10 days to prepare and issue an appeal.

Meanwhile, the Premier League has already made a pre-season draw, where three teams – FC Dnepr, as well as Arsenal Kiev and Krivbass – did not take part in the ceremony. The new season is due to kick off this weekend with a Supercup clash between current champions Dynamo Kiev and domestic cup holders Vorksla.
