Russia's most successful club Spartak Moscow are currently looking for a new manager as the team have parted ways with Michael Laudrup after being trounced 3-0 by Dynamo in the quarterfinals of the Russian Cup.

Spartak Moscow 0-3 Dynamo Moscow

The Red-and-Whites were creating chance after chance in the first half but with no result.

The opening goal of the game came in the 65th minute. Dmitry Kombarov found Aleksandr Kerzhakov in the box, and the ex-Sevilla striker put the ball under goalkeeper Stipe Pletikosa.

Dynamo added to Spartak's woes as Dmitry Kokhlov punished the Moscow club, making it 2-0.

The final nail in Spartak's, and ultimately Laudrup's coffin, came in the 89th minute, with Fedor Smolov taking advantage of some woeful defending.

With the 3-0 defeat there will be no European football for Spartak next season. The Muscovites conceded three goals for the second time in a row. They were thrashed 3-1 by FC Moscow in the Premier League on Weekend.

Laudrup was fired after the game on the initiative of the club’s general director Valery Karpin. The former Danish star striker was working with the team for just seven months.

"From this point onwards, head coach Michael Laudrup has been relieved of his responsibilities because of the unsatisfactory results," a statement issued by Spartak Moscow said.

Valery Karpin, the former Russian international, who made his name playing for Spartak and Spanish sided Celta and Real Sociedad, will himself take the charge of the team until a permanent replacement is found.

Laudrup bid farewell to the players on Thursday morning during a training session.

“Resignations are part of a coach’s job, so nothing really terrible has happened. It’s a decision of the club’s administration, but I still wish luck to all of you. If I managed to teach you something, then my time spent here was not spent in vain," he said.

Spartak won seven times and suffered nine defeats in the UEFA Cup, the Russian Cup and the Premier League under Laudrup, who became the seventh coach to be fired from the club in the last five years.

Rubin Kazan 2-0 Sibir Novosibirsk

Current league champions Rubin had few problems on the night against what was the last remaining non top-tier side – Sibir.

Russian international Roman Adamov opened the scoring 33 minutes in with a great run and finish.

The Kazan team wrapped up the win six minutes before the final whistle. Andrey Gorbanets's effort found the net with the help of a deflection.

Lokomotiv play CSKA and FC Moscow take on Tom in the two other quarterfinals on April 22.
