Russian international Roman Pavlyuchenko is likely to leave Tottenham and head for London rivals Arsenal or Liverpool during the winter break.
According to the Daily Mail, Super-Pav may be exchanged for Liverpool’s Ryan Babel – the Dutch forward, who was unable to show his best game during his two years at Anfield.
Liverpool coach Rafa Benítez expressed desire in acquiring the Russian striker earlier, but the team’s owners refused to provide necessary funding for the move, but now it seems the Babel swap will satisfy all the parties involved.
There is also the possibility of Pavlyuchenko playing alongside fellow countryman and Arsenal star Andrey Arshavin.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is in dire need of a striker after two of his attackers, Robin van Persie and Nicklas Bendtner, suffered serious injuries.
Super-Pav’s former club Spartak Moscow, as well as Zenit Saint Petersburg and Italian side AC Roma, also want to see the powerful forward (often called the Sleeping Giant in Russia) in their squads.
Roman Pavlyuchenko joined Tottenham from Spartak Moscow for ₤14 million after a successful performance at Euro 2008, where he scored three goals and reached the semis together with his teammates.
The striker notched up five goals in the Premier League and nine goals in the Cups in his first season in England, impressing the fans, who nicknamed him “Super-Pav”.
However, things have not been super for the Russian in recent months. The 27-year-old played just six games this season, scoring only once against a lower division side in the cup.
Spurs coach Harry Redknapp says Pavlyuchenko is a talented player, but rebukes him over not giving his best in training and refusing to learn English.
