Anzhi’s new coach Guus Hiddink says he may consider a long-term stay in Makhachkala if his cooperation with the club proves fruitful.

“Anzhi want to become a super-club, which isn’t easy to do,” Hiddink told Rossiya. “Of course, the very best footballers have to be gathered here. But we don’t want to just buy expensive players. We’ll try to acquire only those, who’ll be able to bring benefit to the club. That’s what the strategy and philosophy of Anzhi would be, I think.”

The Makhachkala side managed to snatch the Dutchman’s signature on just the second attempt, though the squad and the coach had been unable to reach common ground before the New Year.

Russian specialist Yury Krasnozhan, who eventually got the job, was fired from Anzhi a week ago without playing a single official game, in order to create a vacancy for Hiddink once again.

“My old friend, German Tkachenko, whom I know from the times I was working with Russia, asked me to become coach at Anzhi,”
the 65-year-old explained. “We talked a lot and I understood that this club has great ambitions. It helped me make my decision. At first, we negotiated only the final part of the current season, but I’ll probably stay for a longer period of time.”

Hiddink has signed a one-and-a-half-year contract with Samuel Eto’o’s club, which according to some media reports would make him €10 million richer.

“The term of my deal doesn’t matter at all,”
he stressed. “If the Anzhi bosses won’t be satisfied with my job and the team’s results, they’ll tell me: 'Thanks and goodbye!' already after this season. But if it all goes well, I’ll maybe prolog the contract.”

The Dutchman also explained why he didn’t invite his other Russian friend – Aleksandr Borodyuk, who helped him in the Russian national squad – to join him at Anzhi.

“Boroduyk is successfully working with Dick Advocaat in the Russian squad,” the coach stressed. “So, you won’t see him at Anzhi anytime soon, but in the future… you know, everything is possible.”

Hiddink, who led Russia to their historic quarter-final appearance at Euro 2008, has been jobless since parting with the Turkish national side late in 2011.

Before signing with Anzhi, he was also named among the candidates to head the English national team after Fabio Capello's resignation, as well as Dutch side PSV.

Anzhi currently sit seventh in the Russian Premier League, with just six points separating them from the Champions League zone.

The Makhachkala side restart their season with an away clash at Dynamo Moscow on March 3.

Waste of money. Selling and buying sportsmen is more a business than real achievement, and in the case of Anzhi, a bad business. Why not believe in yourself? Your people can be as good at sports as others. Support them who belongs to you and play with heart, not those who play only for your money. Even when they are defeated.
