Uruguay striker Diego Forlan has been named the winner of the Golden Ball trophy, given to the best player of the FIFA World Cup.

The 31-year-old Atletico Madrid forward scored five goals for his nation in South Africa, leading his team to an unexpected fourth place.

Germany's Thomas Mueller won the Golden Boot for most goals.

He also scored five along with Spain’s David Villa and Wesley Sneijder of the Netherlands, but clinched the award after getting more assists.

The 20-year-old Bayern Munich striker was also named best young player of the tournament by FIFA.

Spanish No. 1 Iker Casillas was voted the best goalkeeper of the event after his team won the trophy by beating Netherlands 1-0 in the final.

The 29-year-old Real Madrid netminder got the Golden Glove award after conceding just two goals in seven matches.
