Super forward, Samuel Eto'o, says he wants to play at the Russian Premier League side Anzhi Makhachkala until the end of his career.

“Today I think I will finish my career at Anzhi,” Samuel Eto’o said. “Now the football and the life I have is such a surprise. I am not too young, but even if I am 30 I can still play at a very, very good level until 35, 36 years old. That depends on the amount of success I have, to return to competition in Europe. But if the project works how I wish and how Anzhi want – I’ll finish my career at Anzhi.”

The Cameroonian has been a big hit with the Southern Russian club, since joining them from Inter Milan last year on a three-year contract.

“In Russia, I haven't experienced racism,” the 30-year-old says. “We know that Roberto Carlos has had a bad experience, but generally I think the most important for us all, the footballers and, especially, you – the journalists – is to decide to learn from others that we aren't different. I think that racism exists and at the same time doesn't – rather it is ignorance."

Eto’o has scored eight goals in 11 league games for Anzhi, perhaps helping to justify his annual 20-million-euro salary, which reportedly makes him the world's highest-paid player.

Whilst others are using David Duke and other cynical figures to bring fear and racism to Russia, I am deeply delighted to see that Samuel Eto is committed to remain with its his current Russian club and that he will willing to educate the football fan about the problem of racism. I encourage him to be a goodwill ambassador for Africa in Russia and that he should start learning the Russian language and reach out to ordinary and good natured Russian people. Good choice!
