Dominguez to be named Russia’s Footballer of the Year

The leader of Russian Premier League champions Rubin Kazan, Alejandro Dominguez, will be named the Player of the Year in Russia.
The official ceremony is scheduled for December 1, but Sport Express daily has already revealed some of the laureates.
According to the newspaper, Rubin’s boss Kurban Berdyev will take Coach of the Year and Russia’s No. 1 Igor Akinfeev will be named best goalkeeper.
Prizes will be given out for more than ten categories, including Football Legend, Best Referee and Best Fan Club.
Alejandro Damían Domínguez became the second foreigner, after Brazilian Daniel Carvalho in 2005, to take the honor.
The Argentinean striker has scored 16 goals in 23 matches in the Russian Premier League this season. The 28-year-old also got two goals in this year’s Champions League, becoming one of the masterminds of Rubin’s historic success against Barcelona.
Alejandro Damían Domínguez joined Rubin Kazan from Argentinean club River Plate back in 2004. He went to Zenit in 2007, winning the Russian Premier League, UEFA Cup and UEFA Super Cup with the St. Petersburg team.
The FIFA World Youth Champ of 2001 returned to Rubin before the start of the current season, scoring 16 goals in 23 matches.
Dominguez may leave Kazan during the winter break, as Serie A giants AC Milan and Juventus have expressed interest in his services.
