Former WBA heavyweight champion of the world, Nikolay Valuev, says he is not planning to leave the sport despite his recent loss to David Haye.
On Saturday evening, the Russian Giant lost the 12-round bout on points, and with it his position as WBA champ. This was Valuev’s second-ever loss in the ring.
“By losing the title I disappointed my fans and want to apologize for that,” the biggest boxer in history told the REGNUM news agency. “I think the last round decided the bout. The main reason for my loss was Haye’s speed. He didn’t let me use my left hand in full and the fact that I’m 40 kilos heavier also played its role.”
The Russian added that he was not going to quit the sport. “I won’t give up. I know the way back to the top will be difficult, even more difficult than the first and the second time. But I promise I’ll do my best to take the WBA belt back,” the 36-year-old said.
