WBA heavyweight champion Aleksandr Povetkin maintains that, unlike his rival Marco Huck, he is calm before entering the ring on Saturday, February 25.
“He talks too much,” Povetkin said. “He twitches too much. It means he’s not OK. He’s nervous. It’s not at all a sign of his strength.”
The Russian Knight was talking to Sportbox.ru after the two boxers looked each other in the eyes and then held a joint media-conference in Stuttgart, Germany.
The event went on without any serious incidents as Povetkin ignored all of his opponent’s provocations.
“I don’t train my calmness anyway,” the 32-year-old stressed. “I just don’t take such people seriously. There are so many dummies in the world. And all of them say something. If you pay attention, you’ll just run out of nerves.”
Last week’s press conference after the bout between Vitaly Klitschko and Dereck Chisora ended up in a massive brawl, and Povetkin remembered about this when he was entering the same room with the German.
“I’m ready for everything,” he said. “And if there was a fight it would’ve ended badly for him.”
The Huck match will be his second title defense for undefeated Aleksandr Povetkin, who has so far won all of his 23 professional bouts.
Meanwhile, the encounter against the Russian will be Huck’s debut in the heavyweight division.
The 27-year-old German, who is the reigning WBO cruiserweight champion, has switched category to try to defeat the Klitschko brothers.
