WBC heavyweight champion Vitaly Klitschko is in talks to pull through his much anticipated clash with Nikolay Valuev. The Ukrainian considers the bout to be held in the West German city of Gelsenkirchen on May 29.
The news comes from Klitschko’s promoter Bernd Boente, who said Vitaly wants to fight Valuev at the Schalke 04 stadium where his younger brother Wladimir beat Uzbek Ruslan Chagaev in June last year.
For The Russian Giant it will be a chance to get his career back on track after he parted with his WBA heavyweight title last November.
However, Don King, who holds 50% of the fight rights on Valuev, remains the main obstacle.
“He's asking for €2.9 million and that's not on for us,” Boente said in an interview with Bild newspaper.
Meanwhile, Valuev's promoter Kalle Sauerland says that this fight “has to take place” and that they will “have to find a solution.”
“I am no Million Dollar Baby” – ValuevRussian boxer Nikolay Valuev says he is not going to fight WBC heavyweight champ Vitaly Klitschko on the conditions put forward by the Ukrainian, as he wants to earn more from the bout. |
