WBA regular champion Aleksandr Povetkin says his main task for next year will be stepping into the ring against heavyweight super champ Wladimir Klitschko of Ukraine.

­“I would like to approach my next battles in the best shape,” Povetkin told Sportbox.ru. “The main objective for 2012 is to enter the ring against Wladimir Klitschko.”

Two bouts between Povetkin and the younger of the Klitschko brothers were cancelled in previous years.

The Russian boxer, who is currently preparing to defend his belt against American Cedric Boswell on December 3, says he’s glad the fight is taking place before the end of the year.

“Of course, I am pleased that I will be able to have a rest for the New Year,” the 32-year-old explained. “Shortly after the fight I’ll have some important dates. It’s my girlfriend’s birthday, first, and my beloved daughter’s, later. And I’ll be able to visit my friends during the holidays that will follow.”

Povetkin (22-0, 15 KOs) snatched the champion’s title after beating Uzbek Ruslan Chagaev on points on August 27, with the title becoming vacant after Wladimir Klitschko was named WBA Super Champion.
