David Haye says he will challenge Nikolay Valuev for WBC heavyweight title, despite earlier reports that he had a deal to fight WBC heavyweight champion Vitaly Klitschko instead, AP reports.
David Haye says he has signed a contract to challenge Nikolay Valuev for the WBA heavyweight belt on November 7. The fight is expected to take place in Germany, though no venue has been fixed yet.
Haye was supposed to fight Wladimir Klitschko for the IBF title on June 20, but the bout was suspended due to the Brit injuring himself during training.
A former undisputed cruiserweight champion, the outspoken Briton has only had two fights at heavyweight. He says after beating Russia’s Valuev, who’s the tallest and heaviest world champion in history, his dream will come true.
Vitaly Klitschko’s manager, Bernd Boente, said Thursday that Haye had turned down an offer to fight his client in September in Frankfurt so that he can instead take on Valuev.
