Russian boxer Nikolay Valuev says he is not going to fight WBC heavyweight champ Vitaly Klitschko on the conditions put forward by the Ukrainian, as he wants to earn more from the bout.
Valuev informed Ukrainian Blik newspaper that he had a phone conversation with Vitaly Klitschko last Saturday.
“He offered me the same fee that his last opponent – American Kevin Johnson – received for their bout,” Valuev said. “But for me it is an unacceptable proposal.”
According to the newspapers data, Johnson received around $1 million for December 12, 2009 fight.
The Russian Giant didn’t reveal the sum that would satisfy him.
”Let this be my little secret. I won’t tell you about this. But I can say that there was a huge gap between the two rounds of our talks. Vitaly made his proposal in December and called me back after a month,” the 2.13-meter tall boxer said.
Klitschko earlier said that the fee offered to Valuev equals the size of his body.
Nikolay Valuev lost his WBA belt in November, going down to British boxer David Haye on points.
