UNICS lock Olimpia Milano in Euroleague Top 16

In basketball’s Euroleague Top 16, UNICS have extended their lead at the top of Group G with a home victory over Italian side EA7 Olimpia Milano.

No opponent so far for Russian sides in Euroleague

CSKA have prolonged their winning streak in the Euroleague. Wednesday saw the Armymen thrash Anadolu Efes in Moscow, and claim their 12th straight victory in the tournament. While yet another Russian outfit, Unics, also continue to impress.

Both Russian teams represented in the basketball Euroleague’s Top 16 – CSKA Moscow and UNICS Kazan – have kicked off the stage with victories.

Russian basketball side UNICS have suffered their first defeat in the Euroleague's Top 16, going down to EA7 Olimpia Milano 63-58 on the road.

The Russians defeated Armani in week three, but this time the Italians were unstoppable.

An impressive three-pointer from Ernest Bremer gave the Italians a 20-11 lead late in the first quarter.

UNICS fought back in second and pulled the deficit back to four points by half-time. But it was not enough to stop the Italians from taking their first win of in the Top 16, 63-58.

Despite Wednesday's loss in Italy, UNICS still leads the competition's Group G, which includes Panathinaikos and Fenerbahce Ulker.

“Nothing has changed in the fight to reach the playoffs,” the Euroleague's website quotes UNICS head coach Evgeny Pashutin as saying.

“We'll have to fight till the last minute of the last game and then we'll see what happens,” he said.
