CSKA Moscow has won its first silverware of the season, dethroning defending champions Uniks from Kazan in the final of the Russian Cup.

As expected, the slam-dunk contest held at the CSKA arena before the Russian Cup final completely overshadowed the game itself.

With household names like Gerald Green, who flew in just for the contest and James White, it couldn’t have gone any other way.

CSKA's own Pops Mensah-Bonsu, apart from obviously being the home favorite, was viewed as the main challenger to that pair, but there was little he could do against such competition.

Pops, however, did manage to impress the crowd, pulling off an elbow-in-the-rim dunk a-la Vince Carter for his first attempt. But the material Gerald and James had in their repertoire was simply otherworldly.

White has actually never lost a dunk contest before. And sure enough, he maintained his perfect record, and brought some consolation for his club – Spartak Moscow – who had reached just third place in the final four event.

As for the title game, there were few surprises as CSKA claimed their first silverware of the season in style. Throughout the whole game CSKA managed to hold on to the lead they took in the starting minutes.

So CSKA return the title, winning their fourth Russian Cup, while also taking it away from last year's champions.

In addition, with 14 points, 13 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals, Viktor Khryapa fully deserved being named MVP.
