Khimki's first year in the Euroleague just keeps getting better. The Moscow Region side stormed to a 22-point win over Prokom of Poland for their third straight win in the competition.
It may be Khimki's debut Euroleague season, but so far Sergio Scariolo's team have shown no sign of inexperience.
The Moscow region side overcame big favorites Real Madrid in their opener last month, and were in good form entering tonight's clash with Prokom.
Led by their captain Kelly MacCartey, Khimki got off to a confident start. A high three-point percentage allowed the home side to build on their lead, but the Poles managed to stay in touch and finished the opening quarter just two points down.
Khimki improved their defensive play later on, making the visitors struggle to find their opponent's basket.
Khimki's Keith Langford was one of the main reasons behind that. The shooting guard would eventually finish the game with 20 points and nine assists.
It was the third quarter where Khimki firmly established their lead, conceding only 12 points.
At the other end of the court, MacCartey and company were on fire. The American finished with a game-high of 22 points.
The fourth quarter followed a similar pattern, and the 12-year-old club wrapped up their fourth victory in the Euroleague tournament 89-67.
“I think we definitely wanted to defend the home court in the first round and we did. We didn’t lose any games at home, so we go into the next round with the same focus,” Khimki’s Keith Langford said.
