Episode 073

Nicola Sturgeon's Scottish National Party now stands triumphant on the Scottish political stage. Their main goal is the end of the British state. They are already making waves at Westminster where they are the third party in parliament, dwarfing all the others. Next year they will seek a third term as government of Scotland's devolved parliament. Ewen MacAskill keeps a close eye on things Scottish. He joins Sputnik this week to discuss the question, “Whither Caledonia?” And David Cameron now rules Britain in a majority Tory government; so we’d better find out what he intends from someone who might know. In Part 2, a former Cabinet member in David Cameron's government, the Rt Hon Andrew Mitchell MP comes into the studio hotfoot from the United States, where he's been trying to secure the release of the last British hostage in Guantanamo Bay.
