In June 2013, the NSA experienced one of the largest leaks of classified documents in its history. The whistle-blower, Edward Snowden, put his life and freedom at risk to reveal to the American public and global community the secret workings of the US surveillance machine. Called a spy and a traitor by some and celebrated as a hero by others, Snowden had to work against the clock to find allies and a safe haven as US intelligence services closed in around him.
