Zoo animals go wild for Maslenitsa feast

Published 15 Feb, 2010 01:08 | Updated 15 Feb, 2010 04:53

Sunday marked the end of Maslenitsa - the traditional week-long Russian festival which bids farewell to winter. Animals, as well as people, enjoyed the celebration.

The week of Maslenitsa is dedicated to consuming blini – traditional Russian pancakes – in preparation for fasting during the Christian season of Lent, which runs up to Easter in early April.

Apes in Krasnoyarsk Zoo in Siberia had their own Maslenitsa munchies and enjoyed them no less than people do – although they would probably enjoy any meal just as much.
