Two traffic policemen have been killed by unidentified gunmen in the city of Nazran in the southern Russian republic of Ingushetia.

According to Makkah Dzaurova, a local RIA Novosti journalist, a traffic patrol was following a suspicious Mercedes and blocked it near a local market.

When police officers attempted to approach the car, Muslim Yangiev and Zurab Zukoev were shot dead by the criminals.

The other officers failed to return fire due to a large crowd nearby and the Mercedes managed to escape.

A search is now taking place to find the car.
