Three people have been killed during a riot in a juvenile prison in the Russian city of Kirovgrad. Two inmates were shot dead when security guards opened fire at a group of prisoners trying to get over a barrier. Also, an officer who was on duty died in h

Elena Tishchenko from the Federal Penitentiary Service of the Sverdlovsk region says the situation is now under control.

“A group of inmates tried to get over the main barrier. They were from about 14 to 18 years old. To stop them, security guards fired warning shots. One inmate was shot dead. After the escape failed, the inmates started a fire. Special forces were called to the site. Guards only used batons. Six prison workers and six inmates were injured. All of them have been treated by medics. The situation is now under control, the fire was extinguished. The prosecutor of the region is at the site of the incident,” she commented.
