Russian sides Spartak Moscow and CSKA both saw action in the group stages of the UEFA cup on Thursday evening. It was a topsy-turvy night on the continent with Spartak losing at home and the Army Men of CSKA winning away.
In the UEFA Cup CSKA Moscow became one of the first four clubs to progress to the knockout stages of the competition thanks to a 2-1 win over Polish side Lech Poznan. Meanwhile, city rivals Spartak greatly improved their chances of following the army men
Although Spartak Moscow may have had a disappointing season in the Russian Premier League, the team has a golden opportunity to reach the knockout stages of the UEFA Cup this evening.
