Dmitry Medvedev has expressed his satisfaction at the pace of work at Olympic venues being constructed in Sochi.

The president visited the southern Russian city to personally oversee preparations for the 2014 Winter Games.

Before getting down to business, the President went skiing at the Krasnaya Polyana resort. He then inspected a new complex that will host the biathlon and cross country competitions in 2014.

Medvedev encouraged builders to use the most modern construction technology available. He also stressed the need to minimize any possible environmental risks posed during building. And Medvedev called for quicker allocation of land lots to Sochi residents whose land has been taken by Russian authorities for building Olympic sites.
