This winter Moscow municipal services will start seeding approaching snow clouds, so that they drop their load outside of the city. The move is expected to cut down on the cost of cleaning the capital’s streets.

Sounds like a good idea to me. I spent the Winter of 2003/4 in Moscow and for 2 months waded through 20cm of brown chemical laden slush, which destroys your shoes. Indeed most people keep a nice pair of shoes at work and the offices have special closets for all the outdoor boots, etc. I shall return to Moscow again this Winter 2009/10. Moscow is beautiful when white, so we shall see how much snow they prevent/allow.
