While the Europeans have totally surrendered to Islam ,and willing to live under Sharia Laws ,Singapore ,although surrounded by envious and unfriendly Islamic nations ,it has a strong will to overcome its fear. It is the Israel of South East Asia ,full of innovation ,dynamic and an example of self reliance. The British should take back the convicts from Australia and return the country to its Asian natives. That would solve the Singapore land problem.

Singapore is a multi-ethnic, multi-racial country with complete harmony among its residents. While the rest of the world is ablaze with communal hatred and Quran burning episodes and increasing intolerance, Singapore sets a perfect example of how humans can live and co-exist peacefully irrespective of caste, colour, ethnicity, religion and differing ideologies. Beg your pardon, but the countries that you mention in your report from where the sand supposedly is brought into are not by any chance the 'Mr Perfects' of South East Asia. Malaysia, Indonesia, Cambodia, Vietnam all have had a chequered record when it comes to intrinsic socio-political as well as geopolitical issues. And which country does not stake claim to greener pastures? Time to show the mirror to some global powers here.Russia is staking claims on the oil and gas reserves of Antartica, so are Canada, USA and other European nations on the reserves of the arctic sea. Is that not ludicrous by itself? So is it fair to accuse a tiny efficient, reliable and dependable country such as Singapore of crossing the line when these so called big-wiggies are indulging in more heinous activities. And just to set the record straight, Singapore does not indulge in sand dredging in foreign territories at all. It would be stupid to presume that any country would allow an alien entity to carry out such an activity on its home soil. Singapore legitimately imports sand as any other commodity like cement, steel, iron, tiles etc. If the imported sand is brought into the markets via a company that is patronized by corrupt political bosses of originating country of the sand, then the onus is on these sand exporting countries to ensure fair and ethical trade practices and not Singapore who not only trusts these imported sands to have been mined legally, as claimed by these importers, but also pays a hefty amount to obtain them.

haha, the israel of south east asia! israel is a disgrace, after WW2 they should live by example instead they destroy palestinia and its peace and on top it regards the world as second class souled nations. sorry but israel is not the one to be compared to, in fact north korea would be a much nicer example to israel only that it is regarded as the enemy which israel also should be. soon enough israel will pay for its evil deeds! singapoure is a great country and has islam nations around and lives peacefully with them because they behave accordingly MR DAVY.

Quite sad to hear about this. Clearly a rogue activity as it will impact on sea currents, wildlife and world politics. Short-sighted and almost certainly illegal - one is reminded of certain other states who care only for themselves. If other larger countries tried to do this who knows what state the world's weather would end up like, possibly impacting on millions of peoples ability to survive.
