Search for Russian rafters suspended due to dust storm

Published 17 Sep, 2007 05:22 | Updated 17 Sep, 2007 09:22

The search for three Russian rafters still missing in the Xinjiang-Uighur autonomous region of China has been suspended due to a dust storm.

The weather has so far not allowed the rescue team to recover the bodies of two other rafters found on Saturday.

They have been unofficially identified as the President of the Moscow Sports Tourism Federation and his 25-year-old son.

The third body has already been identified at the search operation's headquarters.

Six people went missing two weeks ago during a dangerous rafting expedition in the north-west of China. Radio contact with them was lost at the beginning of the expedition. The search started when they failed to reach their destination on September 2.
