The two U.S. astronauts who arrived at the International Space Station on Monday are making the first spacewalk of the current mission. It will take Heide Stefanyshyn-Piper and Steve Bowen, who are on board the space shuttle Endeavor, six and a half hours

They are due to check and clean the mechanism to turn on the solar panels. They will also disassemble a nitrogen tank which is part of the system that controls the temperature inside the ISS.

During the spacewalk the astronauts will send images of the mechanisms back to Earth, where experts will assess their condition.
