Ten years before the first man reached the moon, there was the first man-made object. September 2009 marks 50 years since a Soviet spacecraft touched-down on the lunar surface.

Khrushchev actually visited Eisenhower and bringed him the news personally? Cool, its like saying "look what we have achieved! Now lets see what you can do.":) Those were great times in terms of space exploration, and science in general. If countries around the world follow up what they have planned for future space exploration, we will indeed face som very interesting times.
