Bill Simpson, I whole-heartedly agree with your views on the utter ignorance of the average Joe on matters involving science or physics. Just look at the posting from Good Samaritin who thinks space craft colliding with the moon could result in adverse effects on our planets atmosphere, and threaten humanities continued existence. Hilarious, and a complete vindication of our views.

I hope the experiments, trying to get water to the moon, and blasting , drilling to find any water on the moon is a terrible mistake. The moon is not some lab rat. It is there for a purpose, and we know of many reasons how the moon affect the earth amosphere. The ocean tides are related to the moon's blowing pieces out of the moon could fatal for us. The may survive, but will we earthling. T.G.S.

Some folks here in the United States were disappointed by the impact of the spacecraft. All the morning news TV programs carried a live NASA video feed expecting to see some huge explosion on the Moon caused by an empty piece of rocket! Few people over here realize that the surface area of the Moon, that can be seen from Earth, is as big as Russia. Imagine trying to see something exploding in Russia from the Moon. A nuclear explosion, sure, you might see it, but a tiny empty rocket part crashing, it would obviously be impossible to see. But we were greatly entertained by pitiful attempts by people on the cable TV networks, at trying to explain the purpose of the crash. Even some intelligent people were unable to grasp the importance of finding water on the Moon for further space exploration. Even when they were informed that it cost $100,000 to put a kilogram into orbit, they still couldn't grasp the expense of bringing water to the Moon. I sure hope the educational system in Russia is better than it now is over here. The lack of understanding of science among the general public over here is frightening. If Russia is in similar shape, you're in serious trouble. You can be thankful that, unlike the USA, Russia has a lot of valuable natural resources.
