During its second attempt, the “Progress” supply ship has successfully docked at the ISS. The vehicle brought 2,6 tons of cargo to the ISS, including food, fuel, equipment, as well as presents for the crew.
The first attempt at docking was aborted because of an electronic malfunction on Friday at 4:50 pm.
The failure, however, posed no threat to the crew, since the ISS is well stocked.
There is always a certain reserve of supplies on the ISS, shared Rene Pischel, head of the Moscow office of the European Space Agency.
“In any case, the launch of a next Progress spaceship with supply is planned for the beginning of September,” Pischel said, and “there [are] enough reserves [on the ISS] till this next launch.”
Apparently, the first attempt failed because of problems with the connection.
“We've made a thorough analysis of what happened on Friday. We've tested all the systems, and we've found the reason. Apparently the problem was with the system responsible for the docking, because of the bad connection between the station and the craft Progress,” said Vitaly Davydov, deputy head of the Federal Space Agency.
Davydov also said the commission is currently working to find out the reason for the failure of the unsteady connection.

Mystery code in the solar windWhen astronomers discovered a pulsar for the first time, they thought the regular signal coming from the star was a call from aliens. A similar story happened in Russia, although it is far less-known to the public. |
