A Moor is a person from Mauretania, North Africa, one of the Muslim invaders. You are speaking, not of Moors conquering Spain, but of the Spanish Reconquista. These were your mixed-breed Spaniards, with a lot of Visigoth, under Their Most Catholic Majesties, Ferdinand and Isabella. Actually, I'm not surprised at all. I never figured that the mass of peasantry could afford to, would want to, or could imagine leaving "their" ground for a another place. Besides, my grandfather looked like a Moor, and my mother was often mistaken for Jewish in her middle age.
