Cyber-crime is running rampant with viruses and hacker attacks becoming the tools for organized crime. Internet users should educate themselves about all the risks, says technology writer Joseph Menn.
There is a reason "People have no idea how bad things are on the internet" Because it is simply not true. The internet is working perfectly, too perfectly for some. The internet is allowing communication and fact sharing among citizens who are in turn thwarting the plans of some powerful people. The recent climate gate scandal stopped the global carbon tax scheme in its tracks. It also allowed us to learn the truth about and rally against the health care takeover. I could go on and on as there have been many victory's lately against large scale corruption and it is all due to the internet. This is what this is really about, stopping communication and free speech. All the big newspapers in the USA are going under as well as the MSM as people are learning of the propaganda and lies they are being fed daily and as a result have moved to the web for their news. Government is now openly working on all kinds of censorship ideas here in the USA such as internet licensing and such. Anyone who takes the time to look into this issue will find that this is indeed exactly what it is about.. controlling the people. -Alex USA
How can I get stuff off of my p.c. harddrive? I thought I got rid of it when I cleared off my history a etc.
The internet is only 'Broken' when your dealing with anything to do with banks or credit card purchases.
May I respectfully ask banks then to get the hell off our internet and create a secure network of your own and leave us in peace with out 'Non Broken' internet.
Create internet2 and export your dirty trade over there.

The difficulty with a secure Internet is that it may clash with the need for many users to maintain their anonymity when commenting about the actions of their government or employers. One of the problems with online security is that people who are quite streetwise in normal life become incredibly naive when they are online. They would not dream of handing bank account details and PIN number to someone on the street claiming to represent their bank - but they are happy to react to an unsolicited email requesting the the same information. Even after being warned of such issues, many people just don't seem to get the message about online security.
