A small white doggie with a funny-looking muzzle and pointy ears is far from the image of a fearless trailblazer. However, that’s exactly how the first living being to travel around the planet and return safely looked.
Well, I'd say most people have heard of Laika but less know that the poor dog was bound to die a couple of hours after her rocket had been launched.
I wonder how stressed they were, or did they sit back and enjoy the ride?
To Henry.
Well, if you read the info carefully, the article says that Laika was in the news in 1957 in Soviet Union. I'm 45 and I do remember Laika.
However, I do understand what you mean "machine", so go ahead and ask any American kid "who was the first man in the SPACE (not the Moon, SPACE!)?" and they'll tell you ...Armstrong.
Haha, shouldn't you be chargnig for that kind of knowledge?!

Ask any Russian, they probably won't have heard of Laika. They just say "It's not a dog's name - it's a breed of dog", which is true, but it's as though she never existed. The machine worked very well, at times. Try it.
