With the Internet, it is easy for these groups to thrive. I was in love with a witch once when I was a teenager. If you had seen her, you would know why I didn't care. Her father was in the Air Force and got transferred to Thailand during the Viet Nam War. I never saw her again, and never recovered. Years later, I wrote a short Halloween themed play with her as the main character. The play was mostly set in an old New Orleans cemetery. I literally wrote all night. By the time I finished, my fingers were so sore that I could hardly hold the pencil. Maybe I was possessed to end my attachment to her. It didn't work. It never will, Donna J.

Why are people always looking for a cult to join? Huge religions like Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Hinduism, etc. are just large cults. They have their special clothes, special prayers, special ceremonies, people in charge, etc. just like small cults. When a cult gets big enough, it's called a religion. Quit believing what people force down your throat and think for yourself. Is that really so horrible?

I really hate that they seem to be lumping every single Satanist in the world together with this. Not that they come out and say it directly but to me it seems that the person(s) that wrote this article are slightly negatively biased on the subject of Satanism. I know a lot of people assume that Satanists do all kinds of sacrificial rituals and all that jazz but really they can be just your average everyday person that believes that humanity is going to hell anyway or at least they are (If YOU are reading this, are Satanist and think I'm wrong or this isn't how you practice your religion, then I apoligize but this is how some people I know practice). I, personally am not Satanist (I prefer to look at the world as "When I die, that is all that is going to happen." That there is nothing after death but a rotting corpse[So yes, Athiest.].) but I do have some close friends who are, and none of them have ever practiced (nor do they really condone people who do) ritual torture, sacrifice, rape, or any such things. This "Satanist" group is just a stupid cult that believes it is alright to rape underaged girls because "The Dark Lord of Death and Hate and Stuff" told them it was alright.

I agree with half of what you said. However different each Satanist is, none of them believe in an afterlife. Real satanists do sacrifices just like Christians do, it's called metaphorical. Sorry but I am Satanist and I've never met another that believes otherwise. P.S. This article is full of lies. I have found no factual evidence for most of these claims.

If I understood the basics, being a Satanist is the worship of Satan, hence, the glorification of all sins, etc. "none of them believe in an afterlife" ? So you worship the king of deamons for no reason, not even a "better" life on earth as some guys sold their souls throughout history... Isn't it insanity ?

So you worship the king of deamons for no reason, not even a "better" life on earth as some guys sold their souls throughout history... Isn't it insanity ? You got the basics wrong. Original Satanism as founded by Anton LaVey was called Satanism simply because it was anti-Christianity. The opposite of Christ is Satan, so this name was most appropriate. And ofcourse the controversial name was good marketing. That's all there was too it. It doesn't have anything to do with worshipping Satan. Original Satanism denies the existance of God nor Satan, heaven nor hell. It has nothing to do with glorification of all sins. It's about the glorification of human nature and the acceptance of so-called sinful things as lust, greed etc. What these kids do/did has very little to do with what the original founder had in mind.

Actually this person knows exactly what he/she is talking about. In fact, he/she couldn't be more right. When a small group of people believe something it's a cult, yet when half the world believes something, all of a sudden it's a religion. That's just how it works.

The degree of credulity in the comments here is surprising. Any look at the hisory of "Satanic" sex abuse rings around the world shows that most of these accusations are hysterical imaginings which often lead to innocent people being prosecuted and imprisoned.

The alleged victims did "sell their souls" so I would wonder how they could complain about anything their souls' owners did with their bodies.

I strongly doubt that these people are Satanists (even if they are they are not real ones) because Satanists doesn't do that kind of stuff and does not worship the Devil.

This. I suspect that there's really nothing going on here and that this is another occurrence of the "hysterical satanic cult" urban legend. Its setting (Russia) makes this seem even more likely.

A musician friend introduced me to original Satanism, and we explored LaVey's books to find out for ourselves. You're right. It's rejection of Christianity and that's fair to put it like that case and point. Since Jesus' teachings are absolute and there is no middle context save winners and losers, it's funny to me the bad rap Satanists get. These kids were pulling a pop-culture stunt to go on a power trip, and to get laid, and it went too far. It's funny the media didn't explain how the police didn't notice a Satanist sect grow into a 75 member organization over seven years, let alone do something. Finally the Emmy goes to them. Not that cult behavior has ever been common in Russia, EVER.
