Russian soldier shot dead in Chechnya

One Russian solder has been killed and another wounded in a firefight with militants in the Vedeno district of south-eastern Chechnya. Two gunmen were also killed in the confrontation.

In a separate incident in Chechnya, four soldiers were wounded in the Shali district when they came under fire from unidentified gunmen.

It's reported that a woman was among the injured.

There are no details yet about the fate of the militants in the Shali attack.
