Many homes in South Ossetia still bear the scars of last year's war. For the elderly the past 12 months have been a challenge, coping with family losses while living in the rubble of Tskhinval.
Different parties and movements have held rallies to mark the tragic events in South Ossetia. In Moscow, Communists were outside the US embassy protesting against the country’s policy in the Caucasus.
Georgia's opposition has promised to both continue demonstrating in the capital Tbilisi, and to take its protest into the provinces.
