The Russian Patriarch has given awards to Dmitry Medvedev, Cannes Golden Palm winner Emir Kusturica and the head of the Armenian Apostolic Church, Karekin II.

The ceremony took place in Moscow's Christ the Savior Cathedral, with the winners getting a cash prize of up to $50,000. The awards were handed out to those who had helped to build ties within Orthodox Christianity.

This year's prize has been named in honor of the late Patriarch Aleksey II, who struggled to drag the church out of the communist era.

I am thrilled to see an award given to Emir Kosturica! Not only he is one of the film's greatest, but he is a human being of vision and action. His project, Drvengrad, and the new, Kamengrad, are the most fascinating combinations of real-life places where art meets nature and real people. The just finished film festival on his "Wet Mountain", had another convert. Delighted Johnny Depp plunged into the magic that only Emir can create. Big congratulations!

We just don't live long enough to get past this. I'm not sure what form Russia's takes. Somebody has to protect the Morlocks, I guess, lest the goat god come back after the Elois. They should not be paid for their service, however. Is it not true that a rich man would have a hard time entering into the kingdom of Heaven ~ Jesus So, all those poor kids are running around and people putting pictures of them up starving, and some people manage to have political ties that help them to set up what they should do with their good hearts or for their own souls. I guess what goes around comes back around in time and karma.
